Most effective fixes and how they work

For most people experiencing flooding in their homes basement, the top recommendation would be a French drain, a sump pump, or a waterproofing treatment. In some cases, the best solution is a combination of the three.

French drains work by directing the flow of water during heavy rains away from your home where it can properly drain instead of seeping into the ground adjacent to your home, and eventually into your basement.

A sump pump can work in conjunction with a French drain to ensure that any water that does potentially reach your basement, is quickly and efectively pumped out and away before it has time to leak into you basement. A Sump pump works by digging below your basement floor, and installing a pump. When the water table rises enough to reach your basements level and start flooding, the pump will have already activated and started pumping water put and away before it has the chance to flood your basement.

Waterproofing your basement is the easiest and least invasive way to attempt to keep water and dampness out of your basement. Waterproofing mainly consists of plugging holes, filling cracks, and then preparing to seal the floors and walls. Once you’ve prepared the area, a special sealant is applied to the floors and walls that forms a barrier between your basement and the water.
